Recovery Scene Of Betty Jane Mottinger's Body

RECOVERY SCENE -- Postal Service Inspectors have roped off the area in a Hancock County soybean field where the body of abducted Elgin postmistress Betty Jane Mottinger was found Sunday. The field, located just west of Findlay along Hancock County Township Road 89 just south of the Blanchard River, was the scene of an intensive search Monday by the Hancock and Van Wert County Sheriff's Departments and the postal authorities which turned up no new leads in the case. According to the Hancock County sheriff's office, the area serves as a popular dumping ground for refuse, and officials now face the lengthy task of sifting through the trash for any evidence pertaining to the case. Officials also stated Monday that the tarpaulin in which the body was wrapped also contained two cinder blocks, causing speculation that Mrs. Mottinger's abductor's had planned to place the body in the river.
